How Long Does It Last?

If it's your first time visiting our office for a dental cleaning, your visit should only last about an hour with the cleaning itself taking around 30 minutes. What Happens During Cleaning?

When you first come back to the exam rooms, Dr. Shih will check your teeth. From there, we'll perform a scaling process. Dr. Shih takes out the plaque from the surface of the teeth with either a manual or electric scaler to remove the tough bacterial build-up.

 

Once we've cleaned up the surface of the teeth, we'll also take out the plaque that’s found in or around the gums. Sometimes the plaque will stick to the gum pockets and may breed in there. That’s why it also needs to be cleaned up.

 

When all of that is done, the last step is to buff up the teeth and take out all the remaining plaque. In order to do this, we'll a polisher to reach the places that can’t usually be reached to properly buff your smile. This cleaning is quick, painless, and you'll leave our office with a happier, healthier smile.
